I grew up with pets, so have a healthy love for animals. They are probably my favorite subjects to photograph!
These elephants demonstrate that family comes in all sizes.
I caught this giraffe yawing and loved the way that its warm bronze spots looked against the vibrant green grass.
I am in awe of the intricate nature of the patterning on this butterfly's wings.
Not the most wild of wildlife, the housecat is beautiful in its subtle fierceness beneath the surface. The blue of the cat's eyes are picked up by the blue tones in the background. The focus and center of the photo is an inquisitive sniff of a nose.
This lemur has a certain attitude about it that I found amusing. I also enjoyed the contrast in color between its face and body.
I love this bird because it looks almost too perfect to be real. The sparkle in its eye and its fluffy feathers give it a bit of a cartoon-like quality, as well as its calm posing for the camera.
This tiny frog's bright coloration against the rock it was perched on enthralled me.
This seagull looks over his domain of the beach. I feel like this is a surprisingly contemplative and regal pose I caught him in.
A fat hamster takes a nap in her glass cage. I love the way that she hides in her underground tube, but still will curl up against the glass, letting her paws come into focus in the foreground. The sharp corners of the litter in her cage serve as a nice contrast to her soft body.
This butterfly landed on a flower for a moment to allow me to take its photo. I love how the red in its wings is brought out by the pink of the flowers.
This bird (apparently reluctantly) posed for me on a boardwalk railing, against the background of California. I like how the sand and mountains in the background echo the wooden railing.
This Victoria crowned pigeon pecking at the ground made a nice display of primary colors and warm and cool tones, with the cool blue bird, the warm yellow leaves, and the warm red-brown ground.
A hamster, puffed up with cheeks full of food as she scurries across my bed. I captured her mid-step as she looked for a place to hide her treats.
I watched three seabirds flying high above the ocean, and then diving down for fish and was impressed by how they would wait for just the right moment to dive.
